I had wanted another cat, a rare breed called a “Singapura”, and after attempts to find one, I gave up. They are very rare and waiting lists are plentiful for prospective owners.
I decided that if I got a dog instead, it would get me up off the couch and more active. I had looked at all the dog shows on TV trying to decide, if I got a dog, which breed.

So I decided on getting a CHIHUAHUA! A LONG HAIR CHIHUAHUA!

I had to learn how to live with such a tiny creature. I made mistakes, and thank God she has survived.
My cat, Fluffy accidentally scratched her in the middle of her cornea. Luckily she healed without any scars or problems.
Then my attempt to puppy proof my house fell short a little. She found an electric wire under a rug and chewed on it resulting in getting an electric shock. I was in the habit of keeping an eye on what she was doing when I didn't see her running around. But this time I was on the phone and the only indication that I knew anything was wrong was a blood curdling yell. She was lucky - no burns - no consequences.
She is fast and she rushes for the couch and before I know it I have knocked her down from the arms of the couch onto the floor. Now I keep pillows there to cushion her fall if it happens again.
Tiny dogs require a certain mind-set. People steal them out of yards. Birds of prey find them a tasty meal. Big dogs can accidently cause damage. They are always under foot, so they get kicked a lot. They are closer to the ground so they are close to bees lurking in the clover. Get what I mean?
Poca took her Therapy Dog and CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test and passed with flying colors. She has earned her Obedience CD, all 3 qualifications she placed in the top four. She is now working on her CDX, the next level of obedience.

Aspen Colorado and was a wonderful traveler
We work out at the Merrimac Dog Training Club
and hopefully she will get a new title this fall. She
is beginning to learn the Utility Obedience work,
so she will keep going up as far as I can take her.
