. . . BIOGRAPHY ART PHOTOGRAPHY I moved to the Hampton Roads area, in particular, the Perrin Creek - Cooks Landing in Gloucester, Virginia. It was here I began to explore the use of photography as an artistic tool of expression. After I moved onto my first live-aboard boat; Kismet (a wooden Tahiti Ketch) I even tried developing my negatives in a makeshift darkroom made up in the forepeak of the boat. The water at the marina was so bad that it would turn my prints brown. I got a job with the city of Hampton, in the Planning Department and was fortunate to be able to set up a darkroom for use by the Planning Office. They allowed me, on my own time to work with some of my own photography. It was there I did most of my work. Started showing my work at local shows and surprised to win a lot. People were interested in buying and this interest encouraged me to continue. The greatest honor was to be chosen by the Richmond Museum in one of their special shows, the same photographs that won went on a year tour by their touring show; Virginia Women Artist. I produced many works and only gave up when my interest in sailing and single-handing that I no longer could devote the 150% effort that I had been doing. The 150% effort was shifted over to the adventure of my life. Some of my work will be found in the GALLERY section of this site. My love of sailing grew. I soon got opportunities to sail to Bermuda and fell in love with ocean sailing. During a crew position on a boat to Bermuda, I decided to sail to Bermuda myself, solo. Gave myself four years to buy a proper boat and outfit it for ocean sailing. This story is in the"Yarns" section of this site with adventure and pictures. |
